Best Christmas Light Displays in DFW (2026)
Fourteen displays across Dallas–Fort Worth, in three groups: free neighborhood routes (Deerfield in Plano, Interlochen in Arlington, Highland Park's Big Pecan Tree), city and downtown displays (Frisco Square, Grapevine's Main Street, Vitruvian Park, Richardson's Santa's Village, Old Town Lewisville), and ticketed attractions (the Dallas Arboretum, Dallas Zoo Lights, Gaylord Texan, Prairie Lights, Six Flags, Fort Worth Botanic Garden). The earliest published opening is November 11 at the Arboretum. Where an organizer hasn't posted 2026 dates yet, this page says so instead of guessing.
Details checked October 6, 2026 against each organizer's page; dates and prices change — confirm before you drive. This list is independent: none of these displays are our installations, and we have no affiliation with any organizer named here.
Most "best lights" lists are last year's list with the year changed. This one was built the slow way: we opened each organizer's own page and wrote down only what it says today. That means some entries carry exact 2026 dates and some carry an honest "not posted yet."

Free neighborhood displays
These are people's actual streets. Nobody is selling tickets, and nobody owes you a parking spot.
Deerfield — Plano
A Plano subdivision whose homeowners decorate house by house; the Deerfield Homeowners Association publishes a holiday lights page with a map, suggested entrances, and visitor guidance, and says the route can be walked or driven. 2026 dates not yet posted — check deerfieldplano.org (the newest holiday page there was the 2024 edition when we looked). More on the neighborhood's place in local lighting culture on our Plano page.
The Lights at Interlochen — Arlington
A northwest Arlington neighborhood where, per the City of Arlington, roughly 200 homeowners decorate; 2025 was its 50th year. The city lists it as free and drive-through, entering from Westwood Drive at Randol Mill Road. 2026 dates not yet posted — check arlingtontx.gov, which announced last year's schedule in December. Related: our Arlington page.
The Big Pecan Tree and Armstrong Parkway — Highland Park
The Town of Highland Park first lit a pecan tree on Armstrong Parkway in 1927 and calls the annual lighting the oldest community Christmas tree lighting tradition in Dallas County (hptx.org). The Town's calendar places the tree at 4202 Armstrong Parkway. 2026 ceremony date unconfirmed: the Town's event page currently reads "Thursday, December 3, 2025" — a date that falls on a Thursday in 2026, not 2025 — and says further details are not yet available. Check hptx.org before planning around it. Background on our Highland Park & University Park page.
Group TwoCity & downtown displays
Christmas in the Square — Frisco
A lights-and-music show at Frisco Square, presented by the Frisco Square Property Owners Association with the City of Frisco. The organizer describes it as "the largest choreographed holiday lights and music show in North Texas," with over 180,000 lights. 2026 dates: "Nov 20th, 2026 – Jan 4th, 2027", nightly 6–10 p.m. and free to the public, per friscosquare.com. Related: our Frisco page.
Historic Main Street — Grapevine
Grapevine markets itself as the Christmas Capital of Texas, and its convention and visitors bureau describes "more than 1,400 festive Christmas events over 40 days," including the Carol of Lights and the Parade of Lights on Historic Main Street. Parking is free throughout Historic Main Street, per the bureau. 2026 dates were not on the page we checked — see grapevinetexasusa.com. Related: our Grapevine page.
Vitruvian Lights — Addison
The holiday lighting of Vitruvian Park in Addison, listed among the park's annual events on its own site. The Town of Addison's listing for last season described entry to the light display as free, with paid event parking on tree-lighting night. 2026 dates not yet posted — check vitruvianpark.com or addisontx.gov. Related: our Addison & Farmers Branch page.
Santa's Village — Richardson
A walk-through holiday village at Huffhines Park, 1500 Apollo Road, run by the City of Richardson. The city describes it as a free event with free parking. 2026 dates, per cor.net: December 5–6, 11–13 and 18–20, 6:00–9:00 p.m., with the village open to stroll through on weekdays in between. Confirm on cor.net. Related: our Richardson page.
Old Town Holiday Stroll — Lewisville
Our hometown entry, and a small one: a two-day city event at Wayne Ferguson Plaza, 150 W. Church Street, with a tree lighting ceremony on Friday evening and a Christmas parade through Old Town on Saturday. 2026 dates, per the city: Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5. Details at cityoflewisville.com. Related: our Lewisville page.
Ticketed attractions
We have left prices out on purpose. Most of these use date-based pricing, and a number that is right today will be wrong by Thanksgiving.
Holiday at the Arboretum — Dallas
The Dallas Arboretum's holiday season across its 66 acres, built around the 12 Days of Christmas gazebos. Worth knowing: the Arboretum says this year "marks the final season" of those gazebos, billed as "One Final Chorus." 2026 dates: "NOV 11–JAN 3, 2027", with separate daytime and nighttime admission, per dallasarboretum.org. Related: our Dallas page.
Dallas Zoo Lights — Dallas
An after-hours, walk-through light event at the Dallas Zoo. The zoo notes it is designed for viewing lights and that most animals are not on view. 2026 dates: "open select nights November 13–January 3," 5:30–9 p.m., with tickets on sale October 15, 2026, per dallaszoo.com.
Christmas at Gaylord Texan — Grapevine
The resort's seasonal programming of decor and separately ticketed attractions. 2026 dates: "November 13, 2026 – January 3, 2027," per christmasatgaylordtexan.com. It pairs naturally with Grapevine's Main Street, which is in the same city.
Prairie Lights — Grand Prairie
The City of Grand Prairie's drive-through light park at Lynn Creek Park on Joe Pool Lake, which the organizer says has "over 5 million lights." The site reads "Open every night Nov. 26 – Dec. 31 at 6 p.m." but does not print the year, so confirm on prairielights.org. One 2026 date is firm: the city's tourism site lists a Sneak-A-Peek on November 21 and 22, 2026, when the route opens to walkers and runners before cars (grandfungp.com).
Holiday in the Park — Six Flags Over Texas, Arlington
The theme park's holiday event: lights, shows, and select rides, included with park admission. The event page lists "Select Days, November 22 – December 30" without a year, so treat it as unconfirmed for 2026 and check sixflags.com for the operating calendar.
Christmas in the Garden — Fort Worth Botanic Garden
A ticketed, self-guided nighttime trail of light installations through the garden. 2026 dates not yet posted — check fwbg.org; the page still showed last season's run when we looked. Related: our Fort Worth page.
Plan the drive
DFW is wide, and December traffic does not help. Pick one side of the metroplex per night.
- North. Deerfield (Plano), Christmas in the Square (Frisco), Vitruvian Lights (Addison), Santa's Village (Richardson), and the Old Town Holiday Stroll (Lewisville).
- Mid-cities. Grapevine's Main Street and the Gaylord Texan share a city. Interlochen and Six Flags are both in Arlington, and Prairie Lights is next door in Grand Prairie.
- Dallas. The Big Pecan Tree in Highland Park, the Dallas Arboretum, and the Dallas Zoo.
- Fort Worth side. Christmas in the Garden at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. It is the only Fort Worth entry we could verify to this page's standard; Arlington's displays are the nearest neighbors.
Tips that keep it pleasant
- Go on a weeknight if you can. Deerfield's own HOA warns visitors to expect very long lines of cars. Fewer people have Tuesday free.
- Driveways and alleys are not parking. Deerfield's HOA asks visitors not to block alleys, and suggests walkers park on a street at the far north end of the neighborhood near Quincy Road rather than on the busy streets.
- Follow the route rules. At Interlochen, the City of Arlington says traffic must keep right so the left lane stays open for emergency vehicles, and that there is no passing once you are on the trail.
- Keep it quiet. Deerfield's HOA asks visitors to keep car music at a respectable level. People live there, and some of them have work in the morning.
- Headlights. Neither neighborhood page we checked sets a headlight rule. Dimming to parking lights is a common courtesy where it is safe and legal — follow posted signs and any officers directing traffic.
- Buy from the organizer. For ticketed attractions, use the official page linked above rather than a reseller.
What the best home displays have in common
Walk a neighborhood route and the houses that stop you tend to share three things. These are design observations, not claims about who installed anything.
- Clean, continuous rooflines. One unbroken line along every eave and gable, with no gaps or sagging stretches, reads from a block away.
- Consistent color temperature. All warm white, or a deliberate color scheme — not three slightly different whites from three different boxes. We compare the options in warm white vs. multicolor.
- Lit trees as anchors. A wrapped trunk or two gives the yard depth and frames the house instead of leaving the roofline floating.
If you want to see how that would look on your own house, we will send a free design mockup from a photo, and quotes are free. Book as early as you can: by late October, calendars across DFW are genuinely tight, and November callers often land on waitlists.
DFW Christmas Lights, Answered
Which DFW Christmas light displays are free?
Several. The City of Arlington lists the Lights at Interlochen as free, Frisco Square describes Christmas in the Square as free to the public, and the City of Richardson describes Santa's Village as a free event with free parking. Deerfield in Plano and Highland Park's Big Pecan Tree sit on public streets with no ticketing. Parking, skating, and other extras can still cost money, so check each organizer's page before you go.
When do Christmas light displays open in DFW in 2026?
The earliest openings published so far: Holiday at the Arboretum on November 11, Dallas Zoo Lights and Christmas at Gaylord Texan on November 13, and Frisco's Christmas in the Square on November 20. Several neighborhood and city displays, including Deerfield and Interlochen, had not posted 2026 dates when we checked on October 6, 2026.
Which displays are drive-through and which are walk-through?
The Lights at Interlochen in Arlington and Prairie Lights in Grand Prairie are driving routes. Dallas Zoo Lights, Holiday at the Arboretum, Christmas in the Garden in Fort Worth, Santa's Village in Richardson, and Frisco's Christmas in the Square are seen on foot. Deerfield in Plano can be walked or driven, according to its homeowners association.
Did North Texas Christmas Light Installation install any of these displays?
No. This list is independent. None of the displays on this page are our installations, and we have no affiliation with any organizer listed. We install home and commercial lighting across DFW; this guide is simply where we would send a neighbor who asked.
